The world’s top 10 beach bars

From a small pub in Wales to rundown looking shack in the sea off Jamaica, these beach bars have recently been voted the world’s best by travel website cheapflights.co.uk.

With the UK enjoying a spell of warm weather it is easy to picture oneself sitting on a beach with a cold drink, enjoying a view out to sea.

But where are the best places in Britain to do that? And what about the rest of the world?

Cheapflights.co.uk has recently published this list of the world’s top 10 beach bars, so click through the following pages, see where they all are and start planning on turning those dreams into a reality.

10. Shimmy Beach Club, Cape Town, South Africa

Located on the harbour at Cape Town, with Table Mountain in the background the Shimmy Beach Club offers a range of bars, pools and sun spots.

The infinity swimming pool sits just metres from the ocean and the pool deck has its own 13-metre bar, where you can watch ships coming in and out of the harbour.

The sea off Cape Town also hosts a range of wildlife, which you can also see from this bar.

9. Purobeach, Tivat, Montenegro

The photographs of this bar show it to be simply stunning and it is located “on a mini peninsula, in the middle of Porto Montenegro, with its own 180 degree view.

“With a number of indoor and outdoor bars, pool and even massages are available at the bar, which also has its own private pier so “those guests arriving by boat are able to anchor directly next to Purobeach.”

8. Flora-Bama Lounge, Pensacola, Florida, United States

This is mush more of a beach party bar, which opened in 1964 and (from a UK perspective) has “Spring Break” written all over it.

The mission statement for this bar is: “To always be responsive and sensitive to the human dignity of others. To grant equal respect to all who enter the Flora-Bama, expecting the same in return. To ensure our guests enjoy the magic of the Flora-Bama, leave safe and happy and come to visit us again with new friends.”

There is also an annual mullet tossing competition which takes place on the beach outside the bar every April.

7. The Watering Hole, Cornwall, England

The Watering Hole bar is actually situated on Perranporth beach on Cornwall’s west coast.

Not by the beach or near the beach or even just off the beach, but right on it, which the bar says makes it “one of a kind.”

As well as drink there is music, food and sport available at the bar with regular beach cricket and tag rugby competitions, or you can sit on the beach watching the waves if you prefer something a bit more sedate.

6. Barasti, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Overlooking the Arabian Sea, the Barasti Beach Bar is said to be a stone’s throw away from the beach.

Offering everything from breakfast to cocktails as well as sporting entertainment with televisions throughout, this is a stylish bar with a “casual & relaxed party atmosphere at night time”.

5. Tabon Te Keekee, North Tarawa, Kiribati

This bar sits within a family-run holiday destination featuring traditional thatched bungalows and crystal clear water.

You can lie in a hammock and then role off and take a swim, this is a great-looking beach bar.

4. The Beach Pavilion, Hayman Island

It almost seems like it wouldn’t be right for a list of beach bars not to include one from Australia, but this bar on Hayman Island definitely warrants its place.

The Beach Pavilion offers “the perfect setting for enjoying a cold beer, great tequila or a refreshing glass of Australian wine, while taking in the breathtaking view of the sparkling Coral Sea.”

3. Ty Coch Inn, Porthdinllaen, Wales

The Ty Coch Inn looks out over the sands at Porthdinllaen in North Wales and cannot be reached by car.

The pub started out life as a vicarage in 1823, before opening as an inn in 1842.

It can only be reached by walking nearly a mile across the beach or across a golf course on top of the headland.

Landlady Briony MacMillan, 61, told The Daily Telegraph: “I was surprised and thrilled – it’s a nice accolade to have. To put it on a par with somewhere like Jamaica, you can’t go wrong really, but it should be number one.”

2. Badeschiff, Berlin, Germany

It might be surprising to find a beach bar in Berlin, which is around 124 miles from the coast, but the city’s floating ‘beach’ has become a huge draw.

With a sandy beach and open-air bar Badeschliff pulls in locals and visitors alike.

As well as offering a beach in the summer the bar transforms for winter with two saunas, heated pool and, of course, a bar.

1. Pelican Bar, Negril, Jamaica

It is perhaps fitting that the world’s best beach bar belongs to Jamaica, which could be widely considered to be an ideal tropical location.

The Pelican bar is situated a mile off shore and consists of a shack in the ocean and is a great place to have a beer and enjoy the (incredibly) fresh seafood.
