@BollingerUK tweeted this picture of a quote from Madame Lily Bollinger, the tweet said: “‘When do you drink champagne’? Madame Bollinger’s reply still quoted as the epitome of Champagne.” And it is still hard to disagree with what she said.

This week Tamara Ecclestone spent £30,000 on Champagne on a night out at Aura nightclub in London. This photograph was tweeted by @thejosephryan, who said: “Tonight we are called TAMAura @tamecclestone @AuraMayfair”.

Neil McGuigan of McGuigan Wines and celebrity chef John Torode launched their food and wine matching recipe collection this week in the sumptuous surroundings of 29 Portland Pace in Regent’s Park, where db couldn’t resist snapping this stunning chandelier.

During the lunch, Masterchef presenter John Torode gave a cookery demonstration, showing guests how to make his mustard beef wellington.

In signature Dom Pérignon style, chef de cave Richard Geoffroy chose to launch the latest vintage of Dom Pérignon Rosé – 2002 – at Leighton House in Holland Park. The former home of Pre Raphaelite painter Frederic Leighton, the hallway boasts turquoise tiles, chandeliers and water features.

Fresh from the official launch in Istanbul, DP’s chef de cave Richard Geoffroy introduced his latest rosé vintage – 2002 – in the Moorish hallway of Leighton House, describing it as “the dark jewel” of Dom Pérignon.

Seemingly on chandelier watch, db also spotted this fine specimen during the Maisons Marques et Domaines tasting brightening up the hallway of The Savoy

Aubert de Villaine is in the house: arriving at Corney & Barrow’s London offices to taste the 2010 vintage of Domaine de Romanée Conti, db spotted the unmistakeable hat and coat of the estate’s co-owner.

It was worth getting in early before the crowds – not many tastings could draw an eager wine trade throng to Tower Hamlets at 8.30am.

The Champagne Bureau jointly awarded this year’s Champagne Scholarship to Matthew Glynn of Bibendum and David Wray of winefriend.org at the WSET graduation in London last week. The annual Awards & Graduation Ceremony in London’s Guildhall, conducted by Jancis Robinson OBE MW, celebrated the achievements of scholarship winners and graduates who have excelled in WSET qualifications over the past year.
