Carlsberg to ramp up UK prices

Carlsberg UK has confirmed it is to increase wholesale prices by around seven pence a pint from January.

The measure, which has been implemented to combat rising production costs, will affect all the brewer’s beer brands including Carlsberg, Tetley’s, San Miguel, Tuborg and Staropramen.

Chris Houlton, sales and distribution director at Carlsberg UK, said: “Carlsberg UK has informed customers that prices will be increasing from 9 January 2012.

“The necessary price increase reflects the rising cost of raw materials, energy and fuel.

“We are acutely aware of the challenging on-trade market and have absorbed as much cost as possible to remain competitive and ensure the price increase is kept to a minimum.

“We work in partnership with our customers via schemes such as our ‘We Deliver More’ service, which provides customers with category expertise, business drivers and exclusive point of sale for key periods in the pub calendar.

“This service is provided free of charge and every direct supply customer, whether they buy Carlsberg, Tuborg, Tetley’s, San Miguel or Staropramen, can register for access to this.”

The announcement from Carlsberg follows that of Molson Coors, which said it will be increasing on-trade wholesale prices by an average of £19.99 per barrel from 2 January.
