August db arrives with UK retail special

August’s edition of the drinks business is out. As the wet-look Union Jack cover suggests, this month’s magazine has UK retail as its central theme.

We look in detail at the British off-trade market for wine, in all its guises, and ask whether demand has peaked. We also analyse the impact of taxation on drinks promotions, in particular the potential effect of the government’s minimum pricing proposals.

Elsewhere emotive issues abound. From a debate on the future of wine fairs to the growing provision of permeable closures, there’s no shortage of strongly-held opinions. We also consider £3.99 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and ask the UK buyers: have deep cut promotions done long term damage to the New Zealand’s upmarket image?

db analysis also extends to Austria and Argentina – both wine producing countries on the move – as well as logistics. Then there’s the many people and profiles.

Featured, among others, is The Fladgate Partnership’s Adrian Bridge, Greener Planet’s Robert Joseph, The Real Greek’s Liz Williams (and her new menu listing calorie contents), and Ben Dawes from Richard Dawes Fine Wine – a new operator with a unique approach to the secondary market.
