Spink shines spotlight on spirits

Spink China will introduce an eclectic range of aged spirits including rum, Cognac and whisky at its upcoming January auction in Hong Kong.

Highlights include one of the first organic whiskies – a 1992 whisky cask from the Springbank distillery in Kintyre. Only 15 were ever produced and this is one of only five available on the market currently. The 1992 Springbank (lot 61) will start with an estimate of HK$553,000 (US$71,000).

Japanese whisky aficionados will also delight in the 1964 ‘Karuizawa 48′ (lot 73), an extremely old bottling aged just over 48 years in an Sherry oak and is one of only 143 in existence. It is expected to fetch HK$220,000 (US$28,000) and will be presented in its original wooden box with polished black fossil oak detailing.

Elsewhere, Spink will offer a 20 year old Demerara Rum (lot 5) from Guyana from HK$5,800 (US$747) and a Remy Martin 250th anniversary Cognac (lot 10) blended with 80-100 year old vintages.

The auction will be held on 15 January at 7pm in Spink’s offices in Sheung Wan.
