Tennent’s packaging goes retro

Tennent’s Lager has released a limited edition pack in its classic 1980s design to celebrate its 130th anniversary.

The retro packs of six or 12 bottles will be available in Tesco, Spar and Keystone stores across Scotland and if fans of the beer have any brand memorabilia from the ‘80s, an appearance at the brewery with it or even just tweeting a picture to @tennentslager will secure them a free six-pack.

Paul Condron, marketing director at Tennent Caledonian said: “We’re 130 years old this year so this felt a like a good time to celebrate our brewing history with the launch of an iconic retro pack that gives a nod to one our best loved packs of the 1980s.

“We’re sure there’s plenty of ‘80s Tennent’s memorabilia out there and we look forward to seeing it.  Punters can pop into the brewery and show us in person or simply tweet us a picture and we’ll send them a free retro six-pack.

“We think the packaging will be a hit, but would like to point out that you don’t need to have a mullet to enjoy it.”

Tennent’s Lager was first produced at Glasgow’s Wellpark Brewery in 1885, following its takeover by Hugh Tennent in 1884. It is the best-selling pale lager in Scotland.

Although it has brought back its classic packaging, it’s unlikely the brand has any plans to bring back another famous packaging campaign which ran until 1989, the ‘Lager Lovelies’ featuring female models on the side of its cans.
