Guide to Indian wineries launched

Former Institute of Masters of Wine education manager Peter Csizmadia-Honigh has written a guide to the wines and wineries of India.

The book, called The Wines of India, is a 450-page guide featuring all 53 producers in the country, and nearly 400 wines.

As previously reported by the drinks business, Peter, a Hungarian who relocated to the UK in 2005, was given the Geoffrey Roberts Award last year to publish the first ever book on Indian wines.

The award entitled him to a £4,000 bursary from the Vintners’ Company, which he put towards research for the guide.

Peter, who has held a longstanding interest in the emergence of quality wine production in India, wrote an extensive article for db on the country’s growing wine culture, which was published last year, and can be read here.

His guide can be pre-ordered now through thewinesofindia.com for £25.

The Geoffrey Roberts Award is open to applicants of any nationality and more information can be found here.

The guide includes:

• the first
classification of Indian wineries
• a list of highly recommended
wines
• a personal selection
with brief tasting notes
• winery visit suggestions
• brief regional introductions
• detailed producer profiles
• 11 specially commissioned maps
