Distillery boss quizzed over deaths

The director of an Indian distillery is being held in connection with the murders of two tax officers, local reports claim.

Two Indian excise constables were found unconscious at a distillery in Rampur in the Uttar Pradesh state on Monday, 2 March, as reported by the Business Standard. Both men were later pronounced dead at hospital.

Family members of the deceased officers have since accused the distillery’s director of murder and criminal conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code, as reported by the Times of India.

It was reported by both publications that the constables had been accused of trying to steal liquor from the distillery.

Rampur district magistrate Chandra Prakash Tripathi has ordered an inquiry into the incident and asked for its report to be submitted within 15 days.
