Alliance Wine buys importer Rhone to Rioja

Alliance Wine has completed its purchase of specialist agent and importer Rhone to Rioja.

Fergal Tynan, MD of Alliance Wine

Its acquisition will see Paul Shinnie, former owner of Rhone to Rioja, appointed the company’s wine buyer for Spain, as well as seven new Spanish agencies.

These include Pazo de Señorans, Equipo Navazos, Celler de Capçanes, Abel Mendoza, Alemany I Corrio, Bodegas Contreras Ruiz and Bodegas Oller del Mas.

Fergal Tynan, MD of Alliance Wine, said: “We are delighted to have expanded our portfolio with some really interesting wines and producers and to have Paul on board as part of the buying team. These really are wines to shout about, from the incredible and complex premium Albariños from Pazo de Señorans to the award winning single cask bottlings of premium sherries selected from the best producers in Jerez by Equipo Navazos, and we look forward to representing them in the UK.”

Paul Shinnie, said: “I am very happy to have moved over to Alliance and to have the opportunity to continue to grow sales for these producers in both the on and off trade.”

Alliance Wines’ full range will be available to both the on- and off-trade from February 2015, launched at the Alliance Wine portfolio tastings on 2 February in Edinburgh and the 4 February in London.
