Australian Craft Beer Awards announced

A new craft beer awards celebrating and rewarding the best of Australian brews will debut at this year’s Sydney Craft Beer Week.

Taking place from 18 to 26 October, Sydney’s craft beer week sees over 40 venues around the city host over 100 beer events.

This year, reported The Shout, the Craft Beer Industry Association (CBIA) has announced it will be hosting the inaugural Craft Beer Awards during the event – with entries accepted from 4 August.

The awards ceremony will take place on Friday 24 October at the Giant Dwarf Theatre.

CBIA chairman, Dave Bonington, said that the awards were the first of their kind and will “allow Australia’s craft brewers to have their beers benchmarked against those of their peers.”

The awards will have nine categories, with trophies awarded in each category before those winners are pitted against one another and the best of the nine crowned “Champion Australian Craft Beer”.

There will also be awards for the best performing “Large” brewery (producing 300,000 to 40 million litres per year), “Medium” brewers (producing 50,000 to 299,999 litres) and “Small” breweries (up to 49,999 litres).
