Diageo to relaunch Tanqueray Malacca gin

Diageo is relaunching Tanqueray Malacca spiced gin following requests from bartenders around the world.

A run of 100,000 limited edition bottles will be produced worldwide, which will be sold exclusively in the on-trade

The recipe for the spiced gin was developed in 1839 during the days of the company’s Far Eastern trade and recorded in Charles Tanqueray’s journals.

While travelling across Europe and the East Indies, Tanqueray hand selected the botanicals and spices to create the blend.

The gin was sold briefly in the US in the early noughties and since production ceased, a large number of bartenders have called for its return.

Tanqueray’s master distiller Tom Nichol is under strict orders to keep the recipe secret.

“Since announcing the return of Tanqueray Malacca we’ve witnessed huge excitement among bartenders who are keen to get their hands on this unique gin,” he said.

“I’ve been asked many times over the years for the gin to be brought back and I’m pleased to now be making it happen,” he added

Tanqueray’s global ambassador Angus Winchester is keen to encourage bartenders to try out the distinctive blend.

“It’s great to see Tanqueray Malacca back in the market. If you’re looking for something new and exciting to experiment with behind your bar, you’ve found it,” he said, recommending using it to give a unique twist to a classic gin cocktail.

Launch events hosted by Tom Nichol will take place in February in New York, San Francisco and London at secret locations.

The gin will go on sale in the US, Spain, Germany, UK, Benelux, the Nordics and Western Europe next month.

Each of the 100,000 bottles will be individually numbered.
