16 restaurants celebrate after Michelin leak

Sixteen UK restaurants are celebrating their first Michelin star and three venues have been promoted to two-star status after the 2013 awards were leaked a week early for the third year in a row.

Dabbous: one of this year’s Michelin star winners

A number of recently opened restaurants saw quick rewards for their efforts, including London restaurants Dabbous, Hedone, St John Hotel, Alyn Williams at the Westbury and Medlar, each of which have won a star.

There was also hard-earned recognition for more established names, such as Launceston Place, while The Bath Priory reaped the benefits of chef Michael Caines’ Michelin touch, three years after he took the helm.

Among the high profile chefs, Heston Blumenthal drew level with Gordon Ramsay at five stars after the Hinds Head in Bray won its first star. Meanwhile Tom Aikens, who lost his star during last year’s refurbishment has now seen it restored.

Elevated to two-star status were Michael Wignall at the Latymer, Pennyhill Park, Surrey; Simon Rogan’s L’Enclume in Cartmel, Cumbria; and Sketch in London.

Michelin has yet to comment on this year’s awards, with its Great Britain and Ireland 2013 guide not due for release until 4 October.
