Glenfarclas augments Auld Alliance

Glenfarclas Scotch and Cognac are cementing an Auld Alliance with two products linking the regions.

The Single Malt producer has just released a 43-year-old Cognac cask malt while it is planning a cask exchange with Hine Cognac for the future production of a special release from both houses.

Speaking of the latter project, George Grant, sales director for Glenfarclas, explained, “We will send a cask from Glenfarclas to be filled with Cognac and aged in Hine’s cellars and Hine will send one to us.

“Then, in 12 years time, we will bottle them up and ideally we would sell them side by side as a dual pack so you can taste them together.”

Grant added that he has chosen to release the products in 12 years time because that is when Hine’s cellar master Eric Forget is retiring.

The relationship between the two brands stems from their joint UK agent, Pol Roger Portfolio, which distributes the spirits alongside Champagne, and the fact both spirits share the same communications agency in Patricia Parnell.

Meanwhile, Glenfarclas has released a limited edition bottling of 4 hogsheads of Scotch matured since 1967 in Cognac casks, which were tucked away in a corner of the distillery.

150 bottles have been allocated to the UK market, where they will retail for around £445 each.
