Authentic Caribbean Rum to train top bartenders

Following the introduction of the Authentic Caribbean Rum (ACR) marque earlier this year, the campaign is now embarking on a bartender training programme in Italy, Spain and the UK. The aim is to create up to 1000 ‘Rum Masters’ by this time next year.

The new bartender training programme, developed in partnership with IP Bartenders, will offer professional bartenders and mixologists the chance to enhance their knowledge of ACR, whilst also pointing out the opportunities for profit that the recent rum renaissance could offer their own bars, pubs and restaurants.

The training will include an introduction to the ACR marque, an overview of the heritage and diversity of rum in general and specifically rum from the Caribbean together with professional rum tasting and interactive cocktail-making demonstrations. In Spain and Italy the training will be run by Grupo N and Planet One respectively.

There are currently 30 sessions planned to take place in high-end bars across the major cities of Italy, Spain and the UK.

Once the training has been completed, bartenders will receive a certificate confirming their status as ACR Rum Masters, and will become members of an online community receiving regular updates on ACR, new serves and the opportunity to take part in competitions and on-going training.

The West Indies Rum & Spirits Producers’ Association (WIRSPA) created the ACR to support and promote Authentic Caribbean Rum brands. WIRSPA was founded in the late 1960s and is based in Barbados. It represents the interests of rum producers in the ACP Caribbean. ACP stands for Africa, Caribbean and Pacific, and the ACP Caribbean states are the countries that are signatories of the Lomé Convention signed in 1975. This was superseded by the Cotonou Agreement in June 2000.
