Asahi marks Manchester football derby with limited edition coasters
Asahi’s latest marketing campaign as sponsor of Man City includes four limited edition coasters released ahead of the football club’s derby against Manchester United.
The Japanese brewer has released four coasters depicting Manchester City fans’ picks of the most iconic moments from previous derby games.
The best 10 Manchester Derby Day moments were chosen by 500 City fans in a survey by Asahi Super Dry.
When asked as part of the survey, half of City fans (50%) claimed to be more excited about derby day than an anniversary with their partner.
With the men’s derby concluded on 3 March with a 3-1 win from Man City, fans still have the women’s derby to look forward to on 23 March. And just under half (49%) of fans also admitted that derby day is the most important day of the year for them.
More than 1 in 5 (23%) of Manchester City fans claimed they would prefer to lose their phone or their wallet (19%) than lose to Manchester United – 10% have even claimed they’d rather lose their wedding ring than suffer defeat to their red neighbours.
Results from the survey were used to influence the artwork printed on the set of four coasters available in Asahi Super Dry Collector Cases.
City fans can get hold of the range by heading to The Cityzens Arms, a new pub catered to Manchester City fans, from Sunday 3 March.
The new cases have been released to mark Asahi Super Dry’s sponsorship of the Premier League team, with the new research additionally revealing that drinking a beer is the most popular way for fans to celebrate a derby day victory.
