Silent Pool Distillers acquired by William Grant & Sons

The Surrey-based gin producer has been bought by William Grant & Sons for an undisclosed sum.

UK spirits giant William Grant & Sons has added Silent Pool Gin to its portfolio of brands which includes Glenfiddich, Grant’s, Hendrick’s Gin, Sailor Jerry, and Monkey Shoulder.

While production will remain at Silent Pool Distillers in the Surrey Hills, William Grant will act as the gin’s global supply chain and distribution partner, helping to expand the brand’s presence across Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific.

Founded in 2014 by Ian McCulloch and James Shelbourne, Silent Pool Gin uses wood-fired stills powered by logs from the local woodland on the Duke of Northumberland’s Albury Estate in Surrey in its production process.

The botanicals used in the gin include lavender, linden and chamomile, and honey sourced from the Albury Estate hives.

“Over the past nine years we have built a distillery that creates a unique product that represents the stunning Surrey Hills location where it is made,” said Ian McCulloch, managing director, Silent Pool Distillers.

“There’s a line on the bottle of Silent Pool Gin that reads ‘Intricately Realised’– it is a gin which has been realised at every stage with precision, knowledge and exceptional care. Today the brand is one of the leading gins in the UK and is exported to over 30 countries around the world. With William Grant & Sons’ global reach and brand-building expertise, there is no better partner to help drive the next chapter of Silent Pool Gin’s history.”

William Grant & Sons said that it was delighted to welcome the “handcrafted spirit” to its portfolio and that it looked forward to “helping to deliver the magic of Silent Pool Gin to discerning drinkers around the world.”
