Australian alcohol delivery service Boozebud collapses

Australian alcohol retailer and delivery service Boozebud has appointed administrators and is no longer accepting orders.

The company, which was formerly known as Beerbud, stocked and delivered drinks across Australia, before announcing this week that it was entering administration.

The directors of Boozebud Holdings and Pocko Pty revealed that they had appointed Michael Brereton and Sean Wengel of William Buck as voluntary administrators with the team admitting that a lack of funds had led to the business’ collapse.

Brereton told news.com.au: “We have made the difficult decision that the company has insufficient funds to continue operating.”

He added: “We have accordingly been forced to stop taking future orders via the online portal. We have also made the difficult decision to lay off staff.’”

According to Brereton, the “majority of the board of directors” had resigned from the business over the past few months.

The company, which was originally founded in 2014, by Alex Gale and Mark Woollcott and sold in 2016 to Carlton United Breweries’ then owner, AB InBev before being claimed in 2018 by AB InBev’s global investment and innovation arm ZX Ventures. However, the business was then briefly acquired by Asahi in 2019 but fortune led to the the Japanese drinks giant selling Boozebud back to it founders in 2020.

Boozebud later bought out Get Wines Direct in December 2021, however sources state that Get Wines Direct, which now operates as an independent online bottle service, won’t be affected by Boozebud’s collapse.
