In a social media post yesterday, Boxcar’s head brewer Sam Dickison, who has run the brewery since founding it in 2016, addressed reasons for the decision and hinted at a longer term plan to get back on track.

Dickison explained: “Due to an unworkable situation with our landlords, partly due to the pandemic and overhanging debt, we had to leave our premises on 23rd Feb”. We were faced with no option but to put the company into administration. This was incredibly upsetting for us all.”

According to Dickison, what began as a gruelling process that felt like the end of the business has since turned into a new chapter as he described it as “starting again” he also reached out to Boxcar fans with a tone of candour and humility and identified how “the administrators helped us through the process of holding onto the brand, which we’ve now confirmed has gone through” and admitted “we are somewhat starting again and we hope that all of you still want to support what we do”.

Boxcar revealed that the situation has led to the plan to cuckoo brew until such a time that the business can re-establish itself in new premises. Dickison disclosed: “We’re planning to work with other breweries to help us make our beer for a while. The long plan is to build another site, in another place, to build another dream.”

He added: “In our heads it had all ended, but now it’s starting to feel like a few step in the journey. We’d love to see you along the way.”
