Freixenet is one of the world’s leading producer of cava, but also produces still wines and Prosseco under its considerable umbrella of brands. According to data cited by Market Research Telecast, the business is expecting to set a new record for bottles sold this year, surpassing the 110 million mark.

That’s an uplift of between 6-7% on last year. The brand also anticipates a 10% rise in turnover in 2022, ably abetted by a strong Christmas period.

In an interview with Spanish news agency EFE, vice president and CEO Pedro Ferrer said that sales growth currently stood at around 9%, with estimates suggesting the business will end 2022 6-7% up year-on-year, when the typically lower Christmas sales growth is taken into account.

Of the total 110 million + bottles the company expects to sell, 65% will be made up by cava sales, 25% by still wines and the remainder by Prosecco, other sparkling wines and non-alcoholic alternatives.

Ferrer said the national market had been strong this year due to the return of tourism and loosening of restrictions for restaurants amid the Covid pandemic.

“After a difficult 2020 and 2021, 2022 has been a year of recovery,” he said.

According to stats cited by Market Research Telecast, export sales make up some 85% of Henkell Freixenet’s total production, with Germany, the UK, US and France among its key markets.

Among the business’ priorities is to cement its position as a leader in Spain, where it last year launched still wines under the Freixenet brand.

And amid economic uncertainty, Ferrer said that environmental pledges remain top of the agenda.

If recession becomes reality and company investments are slowed, “everything that has to do with climate change and sustainability goes ahead,” he said.
