Doors open today to Chelsea’s Wine & Spirits Show

An incredible selection of around 120 Gold and Master-winning medallists from across db’s suite of Wine Master tasting competitions will be on show today and over the weekend at Chelsea’s Wine & Spirits Show – which you can taste by registering here.

Spanning the famous regions of the world from Tuscany to Rioja, Bordeaux to Barossa, and Napa to Mendoza, an outstanding set of drops will be on pour at the trade and consumer event, which opens its doors today at Chelsea Town Hall.

Taking in bottles from a little over £10 to almost £500, among the highlights are Château Pape Clément and Penfolds Bin 707 from 2019 – two of the world’s greatest Cabernet-based wines from a brilliant vintage in different hemispheres.

There is also sweet wine from Royal Tokaji Winery, organic Port from Fonseca, top Cabernet from Napa (Mt Brave) and Tuscany (Mazzei), icon Malbec from Mendoza – including those from the new darling of sub-regions that is Gualtallary.

Also featuring are a mix of wonderful Riojas, including one of db’s favourite Master medal-winning producers, Remírez de Ganuza, along with great drops from other parts of Spain, such as Jumilla (Juan Gil) and Toro (Bodega La Ermita).

Visitors can try bottles from of Barossa too, including Gatt’s great old vine Shiraz, and the incredible wines from the same region’s Chateau Tanunda. There’s Italian Nebbiolo as well, and French Grenache from Châteauneuf-du-Pâpe, along with top Californian Pinot Noir (La Crema and Hahn).

Plenty of pink wines will also be available, including those from the benchmark Provençal producer that is Domaines Ott, and the great wines from the Languedoc’s Gerard Bertrand, including his tie-up with Jon Bon Jovi – Hampton Water.

Further refreshment comes in the form of great Grosses Gewächs Riesling from Germany’s Weingut Hans Wirsching, fine English fizz from Hambledon and Langhams, and class-leading Champagne from Lanson and Henriot, not forgetting the rarely-seen prestige cuvée from Drappier: Grande Sendrée.

And that’s just the selection from the Global Wine Masters. Exhibitors are wide-ranging, from the fine wines of Eythrope and idealwine to the great Italian bottles from Villa Bogdano and Giusti, and delicious choice of drops from Ledbury Wine Cellar, Côtes du Rhône, Seven Cellars and Jumilla.

Beyond these attractions, there’s also the chance to attend masterclasses on a broad sweep of topics, from Pol Roger Champagne to Pinot Grigio from the northern Italian Venezie DOC.

And that’s just the wine offering – with a similarly excellent selection on pour in spirits too, which you can read more about here.

This show takes place from today, Friday 21 October to Sunday 23 October at the Chelsea Old Town Hall in London. Doors open at 2pm today, starting with a trade session that will be free to attend for industry members. Consumers will also be welcome during this period, which will continue until 8pm.

The Saturday consumer session will run from 1pm to 7pm, while the Sunday instalment will take place from 12.30pm to 6pm.
