Chefs Gaggan Anand and Agustin Balbi launch pop-up event in Hong Kong

World-renowned Chef Gaggan Anand will join Michelin-starred Chef Agustin Balbi to host a one-night-only culinary event in Hong Kong on 8 November.

Chef Gaggan Anand, acclaimed chef-owner of the eponymous Bangkok restaurant that once topped Asia’s ’50 Best Restaurants list’ for four consecutive years, will host a joint dinner event with Chef Agustin Balbi from one Michelin-starred Andō on 8 November 2022.

The exclusive collaboration will present a seven-course Andō x Gaggan collaboration menu.

“One of the unfortunate consequences of Covid travel restrictions was that there were fewer opportunities for international guest chef collaborations. I am so thrilled to finally announce that our first event with an overseas guest is with none other than the legendary and my old friend Chef Gaggan Anand, a chef that needs no introduction as a true industry trailblazer,” says Agustin Balbi, executive Chef & co-owner of Andō.

“The menu is a unique representation of our respective journeys, with exclusive dishes to look forward to.”

Chef Anand opened his restaurant in December 2010 and he brought about innovative Indian cuisine to rank equally among other respected world cuisines. The restaurant achieved the top spot on Asia’s Best Restaurants List for four consecutive years from 2015-2018, as well as ranking no.4 on World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2019, and racking up 2 Michelin Stars.

In 2019, Gaggan closed following a dispute with Anand’s business partners, and he went on to open Gaggan Anand in Bangkok later that same year. A year on, Gaggan Anand landed at no.5 in the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2021 list, in addition to receiving the Highest New Entry Award for recognising his reinvented Indian cuisine.

Before opening Ando, Chef Agustin Balbi spent several years honing his skills in Tokyo’s veritable kitchens including two Michelin-starred Zurriola, 3 Michelin-starred Nihonryori Ryugin and 2 Michelin-starred Cuisine Michel Troisgros. Andō’s modern tasting menus are a translation of Agustin’s journey in the culinary world, from ancestral roots in Italy and Spain, to where he shaped his craft in the USA and Japan.

The 7-coursed menu is priced at HK$2,588 per guest, with optional wine pairing at HK$788 for 4 glasses and HK$1,088 for 6 glasses.
