The week in pictures

This week in the world of drinks: Jodie Kidd joins Tequila Pancho Datos as brand ambassador, Secretary of State for International trade Liz Truss visits award-winning English Sparkling Wine producer Wiston Estate, and we visit Silverstone with Ferrari Trento for an unforgettable day of racing.

Model, publican and Tequila lover Jodie Kidd has partnered with Tequila Pancho Datos as its brand ambassador, having first discovered the brand through Instagram.

Kidd said:

“I am so excited to be part of such an amazing brand! My mum used to live in Mexico and told me many years ago the art of proper, sipping tequila. I fell in love with the liquid, the bottle and the team straight away. It is so wonderful to be part of the Pancho Datos family and to be able to help them grow!”

Award-winning English Sparkling Wine producer Wiston Estate hosted the Secretary of State for International trade Liz Truss at their South Down’s vineyard last week, as part of conversations surrounding the opportunities for English Sparkling Wine in export markets.

Data from Wine GB shows that the biggest export markets for English Sparkling Wine are Scandinavia, USA and Japan.

We visited Silverstone on Sunday to witness an unforgettable day’s racing at the British Grand Prix, with contentious decisions, superb racing, baking sunshine and Ferrari Trento Sparkling Wine making for an afternoon to remember.

Lewis Hamilton won the British Grand Prix with a dramatic overtake two laps from the end of the race, and celebrated in the customary fashion with a jeroboam of Ferrari Trento.

Hayman’s Gin has announced a new ‘Spritz Saturday’ event at its Balham distillery this summer, on Saturday 31 July. Punters can expect to enjoy a refreshing array of Spritz cocktails, while a DJ spins the tunes and pizza makers Crust Bros provide the food. Tables will be given on a first come, first served basis.

Kracken Rum has come up with a novel way to protest litter pollution in the ocean and on land; by creating an ice cream that is topped with lifelike edible litter and waste. The edible garnishes are 3D printed and provide a stark reminder of the detritus being pulled from the ocean every day.

Customers are invited to tuck into the ice cream in exchange for a £1 donation to Padi Aware, the marine conservation charity.

Pistonhead Lager’s Pistonhead Foundation has announced that it will be offering 70,000 free cans of beer to grassroots music venues – worth in excess of £300,000. Pistonhead is offering the free cans in the hope that it will help venues reopen and see the long-awaited return of live music come back with a bang.

Michael Kill – Night Times Industries Association (NTIA) said:

“The UK’s grassroots music venues have been amongst the hardest hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. Many have shut forever, plenty have struggled to just survive long enough to be able to reopen. The Pistonhead Foundation campaign will go some way towards helping struggling venues get back on their feet which in turn will provide a wealth of much needed opportunities for musicians up and down the country desperate to get back to doing what they do best.”

Venues can apply for an allocation of the free stock here.
