Ryan Reynolds celebrates football club takeover with limited edition Aviation Gin bottle

Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are celebrating their much-vaunted takeover of non-league football club Wrexham with a limited-edition Aviation American Gin x Wrexham Association Football Club bottle.

Commenting on the completed takeover and limited-edition bottle, Ryan Reynolds said in a statement:

“It’s no secret that I love Aviation American Gin. I truly believe it is the best gin on the planet. Rob and I are ecstatic to have won the approval of the Wrexham fans and the League and this bottle is for them. It’s a small first step on what will hopefully be a legendary underdog story.”

The bottle features Aviation Gin’s classic design emblazoned with the official Wrexham AFC logo.

As part of their deal to take 100% control of Wrexham AFC from the Wrexham Supporters Trust (WST), Reynolds and McElhenney  have invested £2m into the club, money which the WST says has been made available immediately. Funds will be spent on “First-team player identification,” as well as enhancing the club’s women’s programme, community projects and improvements to the ground.

A statement from the two Hollywood stars cited by Sky News reads:

“It is a special day for the two of us to become the latest stewards in the long and storied history of Wrexham AFC.

“Together with the players, the staff, the fans and the local community, we can now pursue our goal to grow the team and return it to the EFL in front of increased attendances, and in an improved stadium, while making a positive difference to the wider community in Wrexham.

“Wrexham AFC is only in a position to thrive because of the incredible efforts of the Wrexham Supporters Trust. Their members are a fitting reflection of the integrity and spirit of the town and they will always have an important role at the club.”

The club had been owned by fans for 10 years when it was approached by an intermediary regarding a takeover deal. They had not been looking to sell up, but opinion was swayed when supporters learned that Hollywood superstars Reynolds and McElhenney were behind the proposed takeover.

Aviation American Gin is an American style gin distilled in Portland, Oregon.
