Zamora to distribute Don Papa in the US

Drinks distributor Zamora Company, owner of Rioja winery Ramón Bilbao, has struck a deal to import, sell and market the full range of Don Papa rums in the US.

From 1 June, Don Papa will join the likes of Licor 43, Martin Miller’s gin, Double Cross vodka, Yellow Rose whiskey and Lolea sangria in the Zamora portfolio.

Last year, Zamora Company USA signed an agreement with Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits to distribute its wine and spirits portfolio in 41 US states.

Produced in the Philippines, Don Papa is the fastest-growing super-premium rum brand in the world, with global volume of 170,000 nine-litre cases in 2019 – up 30% on 2018.

“Super-premium rum is a clear growth category in the US, and Don Papa is probably the most exciting and original rum brand on the market,” said Zamora USA’s CEO, Bill Corbett.

“We’re honoured that Don Papa has joined our portfolio, strengthening our expanding range of ultra-premium spirits and wine, and we’re looking forward to working with their team to build this dynamic brand throughout the US,” he added.

The rum is characterised by its sweeter style and distinctive label inspired by the plants and animals found on the sugar cane-rich island of Negros Occidental where it’s made.

“We’re incredibly proud of the success of Don Papa, especially in European and Asian markets, where we’ve seen exponential growth over the past few years,” said Don Papa’s founder Stephen Carroll.

“And now with this new strategic relationship with Zamora Company USA and their key partnerships with Southern Glazer’s, we’re excited to broaden our footprint in the US and introduce our distinguished rum to more people throughout the country,” Carroll added.

Founded in 2012, Don Papa is owned by the UK-based Bleeding Heart Rum Company and is available in 25 global markets.
