Jailed Huneeus Vintners head released early

Agustin Huneeus Jr, the former head of Huneeus Vintners in Napa Valley, has been released from jail two weeks early because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Huneeus pleaded guilty to and was jailed for his part in the college admissions scandal that hit the headlines in the US last year.

As well as a US$100,000 fine, he was also jailed for five months at the US District Court in Massachusetts last October after pleading guilty to paying $300,000 to fake his daughter’s SAT

results and have her admitted to the University of Southern California.

A US District judge approved Huneeus’s early release on 17 March apparently citing the wider coronavirus pandemic as well as Huneeus’s “unique health circumstances”.

He has been released to home confinement.
