Armit Italian tasting to go ahead despite coronavirus cancellations

UK merchant Armit’s Italian Portfolio Tasting is still set to go ahead next week despite fears of cancellations due to the spread of the coronavirus.

Italy’s wine country is in upheaval due to a spike in coronavirus cases in the country. The number cases in Italy has jumped to 655, including 17 deaths, amid international efforts to contain the spread of the deadly outbreak.

The Italian government has been forced to quarantine 11 towns, including 10 towns in Lombardy, and also Vò, meaning residents aren’t able to leave until at least 6 March.

Managing director for Armit Wines, Brett Fleming, said: “We are deeply sympathetic for any difficulties faced by our Italian suppliers and friends as a result of these public health issues.

“Although some of our producers will not be able to attend, our Portfolio tasting will still be in full swing on the 4th with all wines on show – the entire team at Armit is pitching in to make sure everything runs smoothly. Now is a time for the trade to come together and support these winemakers through events like our tasting.”

The tasting will go ahead on Wednesday 4 March at One Great George Street between 10am and 5.30pm. Producers still set to showcase their wares include Tenuta San Guido, Ornellaia, Bruno Giacosa, Fattoria Le Pupille, II Marroneto, Luca Roagna and new agency Michele Satta.
