Police on the hunt for Ross Geller lookalike beer thief

Police in Blackpool are hunting for a man after the theft of what appears to be a tray of beer from a local restaurant, with the Facebook post attracting over 68,000 shares due to the man’s similarity to US sitcom Friends character Ross Geller.

Blackpool Police posted an appeal for witnesses on Facebook yesterday relating to a theft from a restaurant on 20 September.

The CCTV still of the man, apparently carrying a tray of beer cans, has garnered over 68,000 shares and around 101,000 comments from fans of the US sitcom Friends.

Commenters believe the man bears a striking resemblance to one of the show’s main characters, Ross Geller, played by American actor David Schwimmer.

The post has attracted an array of Friends-inspired quips and jokes with one user, referencing the theme tune, writing: “I don’t think it’s been this guy’s day, his week, his month or even his year,” while another added: “Apparently the police had him cornered then he performed a PIVOT manoeuvre and escaped”.

“Shouldn’t he be at work…or is he on a break?” another asked.

The post received so much attention that the police were forced to intervene: “Thank you to everyone for your speedy responses. We have investigated this matter thoroughly and have confirmed that David Schwimmer was in America on this date,” Blackpool Police responded.

“We’re so sorry it has to be this way”.

Police are asking anyone with information on the man’s true identity to email 7798@lancashire.pnn.police.uk quoting log LC-20180920-0670.
