The week in pictures: Hong Kong

As the year winds down, db HK started the week with a Napa icon tasting at Ginsberg+Chan and a sumptuous lunch at Amber with Bacchus Club  Wine.

A ‘Californian Christmas’ saw dbHK try some stunning 2011 Sine Qua Non The Moment, 1975 Joseph Phelps, 1993 Beringer Private Reserve, 1995 Diamond Creek, 1995 Montalena and 2006 Jonata from Ginsberg+Chan’s portfolio. “Napa cults have a small but devoted following in Hong Kong,” said Lauren McPhate, marketing manager of Ginsberg+Chan. “Something like the 1975 Joseph Phelps demonstrates the incredible ageing potential of these wines, whereas the relatively young Sine Qua Non also shows the upfront fruit and how approachable they can be when young.”

Winemaker Bruno Olivier and his wife Christiane, visited Hong Kong to highlight their Champagne Olivier brand, including the NV Brut, NV reserve and NV Cuvée Lyse, named after their daughter. The wines are only available at Amber in the Landmark Mandarin Oriental and hail from the small village of Trélou-sur-Marne near Epernay. Bruno and Christiane are pictured here with db HK and Gary Lee and Julien Amoris from Bacchus Club Wine.

The indomitable Amber cheese platter paired wonderfully with Bruno’s three Champagnes, as well as a lovely glass of La Blaca from Le Clos du Serres  in the Languedoc.

A new late night bar and terrace venture, Heart Bar opened in Macau with lashings of Portuguese-inspired by canapes and free-flow Moet Chandon.

Hong Kong’s premier wine storage designers Sensis, celebrated the launch of its official Sensis Studio in Causeway Bay. Design director Jean-Baptiste Ponsot (middle) and creative director Lucas Briceno (right) hosted the lavish evening which included free-flow Champagne and Michelin-recommended canapes.
