Reality show calls on ‘rockstar’ winemakers

A reality TV show is on the search for aspiring winemakers to take part in a grudge match pitting California against Oregon to find the next “rockstar winemaker”.

Best Bottle will see contestants divided into two teams, those from California and those from Oregon, each led by an established winemaker.

Described as “cellar rats” by the show’s producers, each week contestants will take part in a series of challenges and competitions as they compete to produce the “best bottle of wine”.

With an elimination each week, the remaining two contestants will then go head-to-head, with the winning contestant rewarded with a $100k cash prize, a new car, the opportunity to bottle one vintage under the Best Bottle label and a custom designed advertising campaign.

Executive producer Scott Krauger said that the project has the “green light”, and is now calling upon established winemakers and “cellar rats” to take part by submitting a three-minute audition video.

Contestant entries must be received by 1 July. For more information click here.

This isn’t the first time that a wine-based reality TV has been pictched in the US. Last year a show called Wine Warriors, based around winemakers in northern Michigan, was pitched to TV bosses.
