Pubco TCG in heartfelt fundraiser

UK managed pub and bar operator TCG has selected British Heart Foundation (BHF) as its nominated charity for the next 18 months, setting a fundraising goal of £100,000.

The partnership with BHF was launched on “Wear it, Beat it” day on 6 February, one of the charity’s biggest fundraising campaigns of the year. Teams in TCG’s pubs, bars and head office supported the day by wearing red, turning their site red, or running red-themed activities such as quizzes and raffles.

As 6 February also saw the Wales-England rugby match in Cardiff, TCG chief operating officer – and England rugby supporter – Nigel Wright kicked off the fundraising by donning a red Brain’s Welsh rugby shirt in return for donations to BHF, and raffling a signed Wales shirt for £450.

Wright said, “Coronary heart disease is the UK’s single biggest killer and the BHF’s mission to ‘fight for every heartbeat’ is one that will resonate with team members and customers in all our pubs and bars. ‘Wear it, Beat it.’ was a great opportunity to kick off our fundraising drive and I’m delighted with the response by so many of our sites who ‘did something red’ to raise money.

Last year’s partnership saw TCG raise £110,000 for Cancer Research UK.

The BHF organises a variety of sporting challenges during the year, including the London to Brighton Bike Ride, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this June. A number of TCG employees have already signed up for the 54-mile cycle and more are expected to join it, and other rides, runs and walks, in aid of BHF.

Amit Aggarwal, head of corporate fundraising at the BHF, said, “We are delighted that TCG has chosen BHF as their new charity partner and look forward to supporting staff with their fundraising endeavours. As a charity we rely on fundraising to continue our lifesaving research – TCG’s support will help us to keep fighting for every heartbeat.”
