London to hold first Pisco Sour Week

Peruvian restaurants in London have joined forces to celebrate the iconic Peruvian cocktail in London’s first Pisco Sour Week.

Taking place from the 1 to the 8 of February, Peruvian restaurants in London will dedicate a week to the Pisco Sour, Peru’s signature drink, by offering special promotions and activities throughout the week.

It follows National Pisco Sour day, celebrated by Peruvians on the first Saturday of February (7 February).

Jaime Cárdenas, director of the Peruvian Trade & Investment Office, said the activity was part of a “comprehensive strategy to enhance the presence of Peru through its gastronomy.”

The Pisco Sour was invented by American bartender Victor Morris in Peru during the early 1920’s, developed as a variant of the Whiskey sour. During the 1930’s the drink made its way into California, reaching bars as far north as San Francisco. By the late 1960s the cocktail could also be found in New York.

It is made from Pisco; a Peruvian spirit made through slow distillation from grape juice, mixed with lime juice, sugar syrup, ice, and herbal bitter.

Restaurants taking part in the event include Peruvian-Nikkei Chotto Matte, Lima Floral, Coya, Señor Ceviche, Pachamama, Tierra Perú and Titos. Most restaurants will be offering their signature take on the cocktail as well as new twists including different flavoured Pisco Sours.
