Ex-cellar Drouhin sale starts Sotheby’s year

Sotheby’s will begin its spring season in New York with an ex-cellar sale of wines from Domaine Drouhin.

The Drouhin family

The collection spans five decades and includes wines from the 1971, 1978 and 1985 vintages.

Nearly 2,000 bottles and magnums will be sold and area expected to fetch US$475,000 to $600,000.

Serena Sutcliffe MW, worldwide head of Sotheby’s Wine Department, said: “This is a fabulous family-story, a direct-from-the-cellars sale of very great Burgundy that Sotheby’s Wine Department feels honoured and delighted to bring to auction.

“Robert Drouhin was one of the first great figures of wine that I met in Burgundy and he bestrode the stage with enormous knowledge and integrity, his children now run the winery and have taken Drouhin to new heights.

“With vintages that run from 1961 to 2010 this sale gives you the opportunity to see Drouhin’s most magnificent wines at every stage of their life, all of them emerging for the first time from their home cellar.”
