UK bar launches a ‘breakfast cocktail’

A cocktail bar in Newcastle’s city centre is now offering a breakfast-inspired cocktail, which it has named “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”.

The Jalou cocktail bar in Newcastle

Jalou cocktail bar has moved on from a liquid lunch and put “its own interpretation on the most important meal of the day”.

The Breakfast at Tiffany’s is a blended apple juice and marmalade cocktail, which is served with a slice of toasted brioche on the side.

The cocktail, which also includes Bombay Sapphire gin and Cointreau, is one of several new concoctions featuring in Jalou’s new spring/summer cocktail menu , which officially launches this weekend.

John McLeman, manager at Jalou, said: “At Jalou we love experimenting with new techniques and flavours to give drinkers something they’ve never seen before.

“This new menu pushes the boundaries in terms of both the look and flavour of our drinks and takes its inspiration not just from behind the bar but from the kitchen and the garden too.”

The breakfast cocktail, which will be served at the bar from “lunchtime until late”, follows the “Cold Turkey Breakfast Beer”, recently launched by the Black Isle brewery in Scotland.

That beer caused controversy as campaigners feared that it would encourage alcoholism, although the brewery owner, David Gladwin, said that the 2.8% abv beer was for “people who appreciate what they are drinking.”

Other cocktails on Jalou’s new menu include the Cookie Monster, made with chocolate cookie syrup, Baileys and whipped cream, the Bubblegum Daquiri, topped with bubble gum syrup and popping candy and the White Cosmo, which is served over a frozen orchid.
