Nestle Waters

Flexible ambient and chilled warehousing and distribution

Nestlé Waters is the world’s number one bottled water company, offering a wide choice of leading brand bottled waters, distributed through multiple trade channels.

Brands include the increasingly popular Buxton bottled water, as well as the internationally known San Pellegrino, Vittel and Perrier in the UK. Buxton flows naturally to the surface after having filtered for 5,000 years through the ancient limestone of the Peak District.

Now we have outsourced the warehousing and distribution to Norbert Dentressangle, we have been able to build sufficient stock holding, availability has improved and accordingly our service levels to retailers are much higher. I am very happy with the way Norbert Dentressangle has responded to the challenge we have given them, to manage not only strategically increased volumes, but currently higher than forecast volumes.

Distribution & Contracts Manager, Nestlé Waters

THE CHALLENGE

• Bottled water now accounts for a third of the beverage market worldwide, in volume, and is showing the highest annual growth rates. This dynamic segment has expanded rapidly over recent years and is predicted to enjoy sustained growth, with the market forecast to double by 2012.

• To maintain its position as market leader, Nestlé Waters is under pressure from retailers to reduce margins, whilst guaranteeing reliable delivery of product in required quantities to the right place at the right time, despite fluctuations in production.

• A further pressure, as consumers become more environmentally conscious, is the increasing importance that retailers attach to ‘green miles’ in the supply chains of their suppliers.

OUR SOLUTION

• With a facility ideally situated in close proximity to the Buxton plant, Norbert Dentressangle is able to provide a convenient, cost-effective and flexible service, 24/7.

• The water, which is a food class product, is stored in a controlled environment, protected from taint and held at a consistent temperature.

• Labour patterns are carefully planned to manage production line variations.

• Norbert Dentressangle’s personnel are trained to use the client’s IT system, tracing every pallet in and out of the facility. This is integrated into Norbert Dentressangle’s own in-house system, enabling KPIs to be measured effectively.

THE BENEFITS

• Nestlé Waters have a single point of contact at Norbert Dentressangle, who proactively manages all their bulk warehousing requirements, including storage of Buxton water, consolidation with other branded waters coming into the UK from the continent, loading and transportation direct to major retailers nationwide.

• Norbert Dentressangle has responded to dramatically increased volumes – over the last three years, volumes have doubled, with a further 35% anticipated growth, resulting in storage of up to 15,000 pallets per week – without any impact on service delivery levels.

• Close proximity to source facilitates a highly cost effective solution; Nestlé Waters have been able to install a new line at the Buxton factory, increasing production as a result of outsourcing warehousing requirements, whilst keeping environmental impact minimal.
