Thieves raid east London wine storage site

As much as £1 million worth of wine has been stolen from a Bethnal Green-based storage facility over the weekend.

According to the East London Advertiser, over 400 cases of wine was taken from beneath the railway arches in Cambridge Heath Road some time between 12pm on Saturday 21 May and 10am on Sunday 22 May.

The large quantity of wine was shifted with a forklift after the burglars broke through a padlocked gate, bent open a shutter door and disabled alarms and CCTV cameras.

Investigating officer Det Con Ash Rossiter told the East London Advertiser: “The stolen stock is rare and valuable. We would ask anyone with information or who is offered these goods for sale to contact us as soon as possible.”

Since the break-in was discovered on Sunday morning, two men, aged 40 and 50, have been arrested on suspicion of burglary.

If you have any information call +44 (0)20 8217 7268 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
