White rescues The Maypole Group
Marco Pierre White has acquired six rural UK pubs with accommodation after rescuing The Maypole Group from administration.
The pubs include The Lifeboat Inn, The Bridge Inn, The Wayford Bridge Inn and The Old Coach House, all in Norfolk, as well as The Angel Hotel in Suffolk and The Pear Tree Inn in Wiltshire.
When Baker Tilly was appointed as administrator back in October 2010, partner Simon Bower highlighted the strong interest from a number of parties in a business which he described as an “established stable of distinctive pub hotels providing great quality, locally sourced food.”
The group was forced into administration after Clydesdale Bank demanded immediate repayment of its loan following a refinancing deal in November 2009.
It is thought that White may now bring his new acquisitions under the banner of his existing joint venture with independent pub company Powder Train, with whom he operates his Wheeler’s of St James’s brand.
