Waterside Inn celebrates with 1985 prices

As The Waterside Inn at Bray celebrates 25 years of three Michelin stars, owners Michel and Alain Roux are offering locals the chance to enjoy lunch there at 1985 prices.

On 13, 14, 20 and 21 October only, customers living within a 10 mile radius of the Berkshire restaurant can enjoy its legendary Menu Gastronomique for just £14.50. The restaurant currently charges £56 for its lunch menu.

In keeping with its pricing, the menu will also offer guests a glimpse of the classic French dishes which were served when The Waterside Inn first won its third Michelin star back in 1985.

These include a chestnut and Champagne velouté with chicken julienne and diced celeriac; baked halibut fillet with a hint of ginger, baby artichokes cooked barigoule style and tamarind sauce, and for pudding a chocolate and raspberry tart served with raspberry sorbet.

Michel Roux described the offer as “a way to show our regular customers how much their support has meant to us over the years.

“A great restaurant doesn’t become great overnight. It takes time to build up this kind of reputation. Many of our local patrons have been there from the very start, so it’s only right that we should repay their loyalty in this very special year.”

The Waterside Inn is the only restaurant outside France to have retained three Michelin stars for this period of time. It won its initial star in 1974, the year in which the Michelin guide was first published.
