IWSC drives sales between US and Asia
The Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine & Spirit Competition has set up a base in Napa Valley in a bid to increase sales of US wines across Asian markets.
The IWSC’s Hong Kong arm has appointed Kevin Trzcinski as its official US representative – a Napa business executive with two decades experience in developing business and marketing channels between the US and Asia.
Emphasising the size of the opportunity for US producers, Trzcinski explained: “Eliminating duties and tariffs on wines and spirits into Hong Kong effectively doubles the potential customer base for US wineries.”
Welcoming Trzcinski to the IWSC team, Cathay Pacific HKIWSC marketing manager David Kelly added: “Feedback received has shown that the competition is a great promotional vehicle to enter the growing Asian wine market.
“At the moment wines from the USA are under-represented in the competition – and in the market in general.”
The Cathay Pacific HKIWSC brings together top wine judges from China, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Taiwan to judge entries from an Asian perspective. It runs in conjunction with the Hong Kong Development Council’s Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair from 4-6 November.
The 2010 competition sees the addition of a new food and wine pairing trophy, “Best Wine with Sashimi”, which joins existing trophies for dim sum, Kung Pao chicken, braised abalone and Peking duck.
