New brew lights up Hadrians Wall
Wylam Brewery has launched a limited edition ale to tie in with “Illuminating Hadrian’s Wall”, which takes place later this month.
The Northumberland brewer, located in Heddon on the Wall, next to the Roman heritage site, has called its creation Emperor’s Flame.
The pale ale is cold filtered, promising hints of elderflower on the nose, with citrus and spice flavours on the palate.
Available in 500ml bottles for £2, the ale went on sale at the beginning of March at bars and pubs across the region spanned by Hadrian’s Wall.
Illuminating Hadrian’s Wall is a flagship project for British Tourism Week 2010, marking the first time the wall has been fully lit up for more than 1600 years.
Beginning at Segedunum Roman Fort in Wallsend at 5.45pm on 13 March, a line of around 500 lights at 250 metre intervals will be illuminated during the following hour, stretching across to Bowness-on-Solway on the Cumbrian coast.
Explaining the collaboration, Julie Sloan, from Hadrian’s Wall Heritage, said: “We wanted people to toast Illuminating Hadrian’s Wall with a special local brew to reflect the spirit of the occasion, so we jumped at the chance of working with local producer, Wylam Brewery, to create this great tasting pale ale.”
