Gastropub group pairs fine wines with best of British

This week sees the launch of a series of fine wine and seasonal food dinners from London gastropub operators Tom and Ed Martin.

Every month three pubs within the ETM Group portfolio will each host an event: The White Swan on Fetter Lane, The Prince Arthur in London Fields and The Empress of India in Victoria Park Village.

Group sommelier Paulo Brammer will take guests through five courses with wines to match. The evenings are aimed at both connoisseurs and amateurs looking to increase their wine knowledge.

Each venue will put together its own menu, priced between £38 and £42 a head, including wines.

Guests can expect classic gastropub dishes such as braised rib of beef with bone marrow and kale, accompanied by a Chilean single vineyard Carmenère from Caliterra Tributo in Colchagua, or Herdwick lamb with a thyme fondant potato, tomato fondue, spinach, onion purée and mint jus, paired with a 2005 Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon blend from Wills Domain in Margaret River.

This is also a chance to explore less familiar wine regions and styles, including a Brazilian Chardonnay from Vinicola Miolo in Vale dos Viñhedos and Orange Muscat from Quady in California.

The current programme confirmed so far is as follows:

The White Swan: 26 March, 23 April and 21 May
The Prince Arthur: 24 March, 28 April and 26 May
The Empress of India: 14 April, 5 May and 2 June
