2006 Award Winner – Best Design & Packaging

Reyka Vodka

This year’s prize for design and packaging goes to the first vodka to be distilled in Iceland, Reyka Vodka. Our panel of judges thought the design
of the bottle was beautifully executed and appreciated its clean lines and elegant shape. But the deciding factor was that the bottle didn’t look as
if a designer had been near it, which is what good design is all about. The judges also liked the story behind this vodka, which they felt had both credibility and integrity.

The Runner-up 2006

King Cobra
King Cobra is an occasion beer that is meant for sharing. “Whenever I see
a cork like that, I know I’m going to have a good time”, said one judge when she saw the elegant Champagne-style bottle. The only pilsner-style lager to be refermented in the bottle, King Cobra is designed for taking into the dining room, making it an excellent match for upmarket Indian cuisine.

The Shortlist 2006

Adnams Beer
Following a recent redesign, the Adnams bottle has cleaner lines and its distinctive label has a clearer font. However the design was voted evolutionary rather than revolutionary.

Brothers Cider
Brothers’ colourful packaging goes with its grassroots image, which conjures up images of muddy fields at Glastonbury. Designed by Blue Marlin, its distinctive green glass bottle and coloured neck collars and bottle tops are intended to take the cult following of Glastonbury to a mainstream audience.

Chivas Regal Royal Salute 38-Year-Old
This anthracite coloured ceramic flagon, designed by Coley Porter Bell and inspired by the designs of Vivienne Westwood, hits its target audience in the Asia-Pacific market, where premium blended whisky is a popular corporate gift.

French Rabbit
This eye-catching design certainly ticks the box for innovation. Boisset claims the French Rabbit Tetra Pak container is 100% recyclable, uses 90% less packaging than a glass bottle and takes less time to cool than its glass alternative.

Havana Club Maximo Extra Anejo
The premium status of Havana Club’s Maximo Extra Anejo is reflected in its packaging. The rum, which is presented in a hand-blown, individually numbered crystal decanter, placed within a humidor-like wooden box, should appeal to rum connoisseurs and cigar aficionados.

Martell XO
Pernod Ricard’s claim to be reinventing the XO category with this premium Cognac is supported by its innovative packaging design. Created by French agency, Dragon Rouge, it incorporates an elegant bottle and platinum presentation box.

Wokka Saki
A luxury brand designed to appeal to contemporary connoisseurs of super premium spirits, WOKKA SAKI’s unique blend of vodka and saké is meant to embody the fusion of Eastern and Western cultures.
