Rugby World Cup hooks up with leading Aussie wine brand

LEADING AUSTRALIAN WINE brand, Jacobs Creek, is to be the official wine of the 2003 Rugby World Cup to be held back home, down under.

Christian Porta, chairman and chief executive officer of Orlando Wyndham, who make Jacobs Creek, said he was "absolutely delighted that the brand will be associated with one of the premium sporting occasions in the world."

The Rugby World Cup is popular in the markets where the Jacobs Creek brand is strong, namely the UK, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand and France and should attract television audiences of hundreds of millions.

The sponsorship deal will mean that the brand has exclusive supply rights at all the World Cup venues and official events, the use of the Rugby World Cup 2003 supplier mark and associated intellectual property on its wines, packaging and printed literature.

Jacobs Creek also sponsor  Wimbledon, Open Golf in Adelaide and the Jacobs Creek Down Under six day cycling event.  "We believe that by aligning ourselves with this, and other sporting events, we are underlining both the quality and international status of Jacobs Creek," Porta said.
