CONSTELLATION WINES, the European wine trading organisation formed following the acquisition of BRL Hardy by Constellation Brands has announced that it is to acquire Irish drinks operator, Allied Drinks.

Based in Cork and Dublin, Allied Drinks represent BRL Hardy, Taunton Cider and Grants of St James’s.  They have been established in Ireland for 18 years and will continue to trade under the Allied Drinks name.

The founder of Allied Drinks, Ken Daunt, says he is delighted at the purchase. "Constellation Wines has a strong portfolio of brands with excellent growth potential and they can provide us with additional support, which will be significant in realising both mine and the company’s long term objectives."

Redmond Gavin has been appointed general manager and will run the company, reporting directly to Christopher Carson, CEO of Constellation Wines, Europe.  "I really believe that this deal offers our company the opportunity to become a leading player in the Irish market," says Gavin.

"We now have the most comprehensive New World portfolio of any wine company in the Republic and we will continue to build and develop the strong customer relations that have characterised our business over the last two decades."

Steve Millar, CEO of Constellation (pictured above), commenting on the global implications of the move, implied that it could be the first of many such developments across the company’s various markets.
