Discovering the
Wines of the Maremma
In association with Zonin1821 and Rocca di Montemassi
Monday 24th April 2017

The reputation of Bolgheri as a producer of some of Italy’s best wines has been established for decades, but in recent years there has been a major growth of investment and interest in wine production in the wider Maremma area.

Though the high-quality Bordeaux blends may have put the region on the map, Maremma has rapidly built a reputation as the home of Vermentino, which is one of the most popular white varieties grown in Italy today.

The Zonin family, who own some of the finest estates and terriors in Italy, saw the potential of the Maremma and in 1999 they acquired an estate at the foot of the hills of Montemassi, Rocca di Montemassi.

Join the team behind Rocca di Montemassi to investigate what makes the Maremma in Southern Tuscany so special. This is a region of great diversity and an area with a French influence but an Italian soul.

The masterclass will show the broad range of wines produced in the region, from Bordeaux blends to varietal Sangiovese and Vermentino. With the expert knowledge of Alessandro Gallo (winemaker at Rocca di Montemassi) and Francesco Zonin (vice president of Zonin1821), and the drinks business editor-in-chief Patrick Schmitt MW, attendees will be guided through the key aspects of the terroir and winemaking techniques of the Maremma and how these influence the wines produced.
