With a new winery, opened in 2001, in close proximity to Logroño, Campo Viejo offers a really wonderful Wine Experience, during which y0u can enjoy this very serious Garnacha. From only a few hundred barrels, this wine is an example of how ‘big’ (Campo Viejo) can also be small and beautiful. Quite deep ruby-hued, the wine displays crunchy morello cherry fruit with black chocolate and toasted oak overlay. The palate is quite warming but has vibrant acidity and linen-textured tannins to balance. A sappy-savoury finish and overall balance suggest a pairing for Cal-Mex pollo fajitas or Italianate red-sauced pasta. [Patricia Stefanowicz MW]
