San Felice AD 714, in addition to its Chianti estate, has a 23ha property in Montalcino on gently sloping hillsides facing south-west. This wine is a gem. Quite deep garnet-coloured, the wine has an aromatic nose with raspberry, strawberry, griotte and bramble, as well as toasty oak and a little earthy development. The flavourful palate echoes the aromatics and is balanced by very fresh acidity, dense silky-textured tannins and well-integrated alcohol. Interest is added by a milk chocolate lift. Delicious with roasted quail with prosciutto, tangerine and white wine. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
