This prestige cuvée is produced in small volumes when vintage and vineyard conditions warrant. Vintage 2017 was a cool, long growing season, which let grapes ripen just enough for sparkling wines. Monro is a family name, which the Grier family members are proud to associate with this flagship wine. Mid-gold in hue with tiny bubbles, the aromatic nose shows orchard fruits with mirabelle plums and white cherry at the forefront, accented by brioche/croissant autolysis. Extra-brut in style, the palate is framed by fresh acidity and satin-textured mousse. Excellent integration and length. Mature, but with time in hand, the wine will pair nicely with salmon soufflés, spiked with a few capers, fresh dill and a dash of tabasco. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
