Tasting notes:
Every so often a Champagne comes along that amazes for its sheer array of delicious and palate-cleansing characters. This late-release vintage is one of those wonders. It displays the characters of fully mature ripe fruit, with caramelised apple, dried apricot, even burnt sugar, then comes a cleaning sensation, with candied citrus, roasted coffee, and fine, creamy-textured bubbles. Then there is a drying sensation – with some chalky phenolics – before one is left with a lingering note of cinders and toffee. Proof that hot harvests in Champagne can produce long-lived wines.
