Speciality Drinks Group – a world-renowned international spirits company.

Founded in 1999, we were one of the first multi-channel, multi-market global drinks distributors and remain leaders in our field.

Our retail arm The Whisky Exchange operates a multi-award-winning website selling over 5000 whiskies, spirits, liqueurs and Champagnes to over 65 countries around the world, along with a flagship store in Covent Garden. We have a division that creates brands and distributes them around the world; another that wholesales to the finest bars, restaurants and hotels; we boast an industry-leading auction site; we have an online magazine devoted to Scotch whisky; and we organise the UK’s leading whisky show. We pride ourselves on our imagination, creativity and ability to source and sell fantastic spirits from across the globe.

Due to business requirements, it is expected that the role holder will need to have a high degree of flexibility in order to meet the demands of the role. Therefore, it may be necessary to work out of normal working hours due to the nature of the projects, and in order to meet the necessary demands of our client base. The role holder must be able to adjust to a broad and fluid set of tasks as requirements change in this progressive company.

Overall objective of Role

Calling all storytellers with a passion for spirits! The Whisky Exchange is looking for a press officer to help share our story with the world’s media. With more than 9000 products, a team of industry-leading experts and a creative events programme, there is plenty to choose from. This is a hugely varied role covering retail, products/brands, business profiling, events, ecommerce and digital.

The main objective will be to maximise positive coverage and endorsements for The Whisky Exchange, and sister companies, via regular contact with trade and consumer media. Therefore the ideal candidate will have two years’ experience in an in-house or agency PR role, focusing on media relations.

Organisation and multi-tasking skills will be crucial, as will a desire for a fast-paced environment – the role will also involve working with teams across the Speciality Drinks business portfolio including Elixir Distillers, Whisky.Auction and the Specialty Drinks wholesale arm.

Each day will be different, from events and social media to digital campaigns and media partnerships. The press officer will join the PR Manager to form a small team of two so a degree of flexibility is essential.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A good understanding of the drinks industry and a passion for spirits
  • A solid understanding of media relations and experience in delivering PR campaigns
  • Existing relationships with the media – drinks writers and lifestyle media
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Outstanding relationship building skills
  • Project management skills
