Scotchwhisky.com is looking to recruit a passionate and resourceful Editorial Assistant to support the team across all its editorial, magazine, social media, events, marketing, content and commercial platforms. The successful applicant will contribute to news writing and content creation, help organise events and to liaise with external writers and suppliers. You will be offered full training in Scotch whisky history, production and tasting if required, although an existing interest in whisky is essential. Some travel to Scotland to attend press trips may be required.

This is a rare opportunity for a budding journalist looking to make their mark on the thriving world of Scotch whisky while learning from the best in the business. The team currently includes award-winning whisky writer Dave Broom, and globally renowned spirits writers Becky Paskin and Richard Woodard. The role is based at our modern head office at Park Royal in north-west London, and will report to the Features Editor.

Salary: £18,000 – £22,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Helping with research and writing news stories
  • Attend and report on events, including product launches and press trips where necessary
  • Monitoring and updating all static content on the website, notably in Whiskypedia,
  • Bottle Library and Video sections
  • Working with the Features Editor to devise ideas and write content for Social Media platforms
  • Liaising with suppliers and Whisky Reviews team to ensure that all samples are correctly received, processed and reviewed
  • Assisting with content for Scotchwhisky.com email newsletters
  • Administering content for Events and Where to Buy sections
  • Assisting the editorial team in obtaining images and other assets for news stories, features, whisky reviews, Whiskypedia and the Bottle Library
  • Occasional administrative support for the Scotchwhisky.com sales manager
  • Assisting the Editor with website development projects

Key Skills & Experience

  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Very good attention to detail and grammatical skills
  • Experience of working in a writing/journalist role for a digital publication a distinct advantage
  • Formal journalist training, an NCTJ or degree qualification preferred
  • Creativity and imagination
  • An ability to think, work and write quickly and creatively
  • A passion for the drinks industry
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and collaborative style of working
  • Equally comfortable at working independently or as part of a team
  • Project and time management skills
  • IT skills: Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, with an ability to work calmly under pressure
  • Demonstrate a pro-active, can-do attitude
  • Knowledge of whisky and the whisky business helpful but not essential
  • Presentation skills, written and verbal
  • Self-motivated and results-driven
